SYS-ED: The Mainframe Training Program Experts

Since 1981, SYS-ED has been the acknowledged leader in mainframe training and the delivery of tailored mainframe courses. No one knows IBM mainframe - operating systems, systems software, programming languages, third party utilities and development tools, and web enablement – software and provides both integrated mainframe training programs and intensive 2-,3-, 4-, and 5-day mainframe courses like SYS-ED. How do we do it with a staff of full-time instructors and the most comprehensive courseware library, skeleton programs and sample programs in the field.

Why SYS-ED for Your Mainframe Training Requirements

Mainframe Training
Mainframe Courses
Seven steps to ensure a predictable mainframe training outcome:
1. Review our course outlines and compare them to our competition. Need to mix and match topics from different courses in response to project requirements? No problem, we perform the customization - course workbook, sample programs, and workshop exercises - free of charge.
2. Download our reference cards from www.mainframetrainingbysysed.us. Even if you never attend a SYS-ED course, these reference cards will point you in the right direction and make the 80/20 rule a practical reality.
3. Send us an e-mail and request to download the table of contents from our course workbooks. And if you need more detailed information, we will provide you with a sample chapter and/or course workshops for review purposes.
4. Schedule an appointment to talk with our systems consultants and Director of Education; we don't simply send an instructor to teach from a course outline. We offer expertise required for problem determination and for consultancy. Prior to taking on a teaching assignment, it is our policy to ensure that both the client organization and our systems consultant/instructor are in 100% agreement on the topics to be covered, sample programs, and programming examples. We commit this information to you in writing, and at the client’s discretion, will implement pre and post course validation procedures.
5. Check our references and testimonials. We can provide long-term client relationships and also put you in contact with our most recent clients.
6. Upon completion of a private course, when your organization has new hires or additional members of the IT staff require training in that mainframe course, SYS-ED offers a special discounted rate for sending those individuals to our SYS-ED restricted enrollment course schedule in Europe.
7. After a course is over, we invite students to stay in touch and ask the inevitable questions free of charge through our main website at www.sysed.com.

News for Immediate Release!

Consulting companies recommend SYS-ED in conjunction with distance-learning products for z/OS mainframe programming skills, programming languages, system software, and web enablement training.

Mainframe Training - z/OS Skills and Web Enablement Training Program

All IT personnel will need to learn new skills for the z/OS environment in order to implement the next generation of technologies. In general these skills will be both a new and better way of doing something that they knew how to do before. Training will cut across generations – some very experienced people will be learning web enablement technologies; while first generation IT staff will be using ISPF, JCL, and “tried and tested” mainframe programming languages, such as COBOL and IBM systems software for the first time.

The tailored mainframe training programs will reflect and incorporate COBOL85, and optionally OOPs, and NetExpress.  The instruction will utilize the full complement of training techniques in order to address the client's operational objectives, the geographic location of the  audience as well as scheduling and class size requirements.

The following methods will be used for introductory material for personnel, most operator training, and programmer training on selected topics.

Program for Client A

  • Distance learning will be used for introductory training for personnel, most operator training, and programmer training on selected subjects.
  • SYS-ED in New York will be used for their 5-day MVS/JCL course, 5-day COBOL Programming course, 4-day COBOL Programming - Advanced course, 3-day COBOL Debugging course, 3-day VSAM for Programmers course.
  • IBM Education Center offerings will be used for specialized systems programmer training.

The plan is to have three or four programmers and two or three people from tech support complete the distance-learning training and then take the SYS-ED instructor-led courses. Based upon feedback from this group, we will either confirm this mix or make adjustments as needed.

On a long range basis, we plan that all of the programmers and operators will be trained in both z/OS and the new web technologies during the period January through May or June. The exact schedule will depend on other workloads on various members of the staff. System programmer education would be mostly completed during this period, although specialized courses may be taken later in the year.

Not All Mainframe Courses are Alike!

Real Hands-on Training
SYS-ED's mainframe training courses are tough, but they're worth it. Our challenging "hands-on" training immediately increases programming productivity by 50% or more for both business professionals new to mainframe and experienced mainframe programmers. We draw upon our extensive library of sample programs and case studies to explain, demonstrate, and implement real-world applications. This will translate into productivity enhancements which will be needed in order to implement business systems.

Wrote the Book
SYS-ED's course manuals are the best in the industry. They are comprehensive guides and programming models written especially for each course by our experienced instructors. They are thorough, clear, and well organized, and serve as desktop references long after the course. Our manuals are constantly updated to include new versions and more efficient programming methods. SYS-ED students also have access to our on-line reference books, sample programs, and training aids via the Internet.

Teaching is Our Only Business
Most computer training companies are divisions of large software companies or consulting companies. Not SYS-ED. Our only goal is to provide top-quality computer training for highly motivated professionals-no more and no less. Because we're independent, we're free to concentrate on teaching--and we do it very well.

All Our Teachers are Teachers
All SYS-ED instructors combine teaching skills with broad practical experience as consultants. Our instructors average 30 years of experience in the IBM mainframe environment – operating systems, programming languages, 3rd party utilities/development aids, and system software. And they know how to teach it. We teach not only "how to", but "why", building a solid foundation in fundamentals and insights into advanced materials. Because teaching is a full-time commitment, there are no part-time instructors on our staff. When they're not in the classroom, they're busy writing or updating course manuals, developing training aids, improving techniques, even developing new courses. And they're available to students after the course for additional advice or support.

Our Place or Yours?
SYS-ED's mainframe training courses are held at our modern, fully equipped training center in New York City, and major cities in North America and Europe. If you prefer, we'll arrange on-site courses at your own computer installation, inclusive of mobile computer classroom set-up. On-site courses can include the same workshops, and case studies and hands-on approach as our restricted enrollment courses. Or can be customized to your particular application or project. SYS-ED’s 150 OS/390 and z/OS courses include operating systems and systems programming – (OS/390, VM, DOS/VSE), 15 programming languages, (COBOL, C, Assembler, FORTRAN, PL/1, JAVA, etc.) telecommunications (SNA, VTAM, Netview) systems software (VSAM, CICS, IMS, CSP, and MQSeries) and web enablement (CICS and WebSphere).
